Lamp (Forms)
Lamp (Forms) is an ongoing series that includes lamps, light sculptures, and related design elements like posters and tapestries.
I make the lamps using discarded materials from the studio floor, joining them with glue or staples. From these original pieces, editions are created by transferring the designs onto thin sheets of plywood. This act of joining and solidifying these otherwise disparate scraps brings a sense of intention and elegance to what began as humble floor remnants. The base of each lamp acts as a pedestal, echoing the way art is traditionally displayed in a museum. But these pedestals are open, exposing the light fixture and reinforcing its dual identity as a functional table lamp.
Prints are made directly from the two-dimensional planes of the lamps. Where the lamp's light passes through the negative space of the solid wood, the prints instead impress the solid, ink-covered forms onto the paper, with the white of the page capturing the negative space.
Scraps are selected, organized and arranged togther.
Transfer of Design to Wood
The initial forms are built from board, and then I adapt them to other other materials. Initially wood, but soon acrylic plastic and metal.

The wooden lamp (Form D) is now for sale.
Prints and Posters
Using the assembled but flattened forms I make prints from the shades. Ink and paper create impressions rather than shadow and light.
